The internal padding used on our dividers is Artilion foam which is the same padding used in motorcycle helmets. The reason we use this for the dividers of our bags is because Artilion foam gets stronger as it becomes more compressed therefore protecting your gear maximally. It is also extremely light weight.

    Why Now?

“Over the years, this is the number one request we’ve had from our customers, and we are happy to respond at last,” said Trevor Peterson, Gura Gear CEO and co-founder. With the advent of a new generation of telephoto lenses and full frame mirrorless camera systems, the time was right to trade a small amount of depth in the main compartment and add the laptop sleeve. The carrying capacity of the new 30L+ still remains unparalleled.”

    Supertelephoto Ready

With 20 inches of length and 5.5 inches of depth, the 30L+ can carry many of the largest super telephotos., including this Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L

    Birders and extreme photographers agree:

"The Kiboko was already the perfect bag for my travels, helping me keep my gear safe, organized and accessible. With the addition of the new laptop sleeve, the bag is everything I could ask for and makes getting from location-to-location easier than ever." @mikemezphoto

    Mike Mezeul, extreme nature photographer

“It’s not a stretch to say we’re obsessed with our Gura Gear bags. We recently added another camera body and larger 200-600 lens and when we found out the newest 30L bag now had a laptop sleeve - it was an easy choice for us!

As Paul says multiple times a day on our trips, “This is the best freakin’ bag. I love this bag!

Robyn and Paul of A Couple Without Borders

One bag for everything you need.

The added laptop sleeve makes the 30L your singular bag for travel. Get all your gear, extra items and laptop into one secure package. The bag is designed to fit within international carry on size regulations.

Our bags are infinitely configurable and come with plenty of extra divider types to accomodate any setup imaginable. Our dividers are also made out of Artillion Foam which is the same stuff used in motorcycle helmets. High impact protection, low weight and profile.

It's durable, water resistant, and utlra lightweight—one of the only materials for bags that has all three. Some of our legacy users are still using their original Kiboko backpacks from 10 years ago.

    Our History

Solving for a critical need: Weight

Co-founders Trevor Peterson and renowned wildlife photographer Andy Biggs created Gura Gear to answer a problem critical to traveling to extreme locations: weight limits on photo gear.

En-route independently to East Africa, both Andy and Trevor got into some trouble with the carryon restrictions at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. “I had packed two Nikon Pro DSLR bodies and 200-400mm f/4, 70-200mm f/2.8, & 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses, putting me past the weight limits. It took some convincing to get in the air, "-Trevor.

Talking over the campfire after a long day of photographing wildlife, Andy and Trevor discussed what the perfect camera bag would be. Literally on the back of napkin, the Kiboko backpack was sketched out.

Over two years of development, eight rounds of prototypes, and one patent application later (and one very frustrated factory manager), the Kiboko camera backpack was launched.
