    Our History

Solving for a critical need: Weight

Co-founders Trevor Peterson and renowned wildlife photographer Andy Biggs created Gura Gear to answer a problem critical to traveling to extreme locations: weight limits on photo gear.

En-route independently to East Africa, both Andy and Trevor got into some trouble with the carryon restrictions at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. “I had packed two Nikon Pro DSLR bodies and 200-400mm f/4, 70-200mm f/2.8, & 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses, putting me past the weight limits. It took some convincing to get in the air, "-Trevor.

Talking over the campfire after a long day of photographing wildlife, Andy and Trevor discussed what the perfect camera bag would be. Literally on the back of napkin, the Kiboko backpack was sketched out.

Over two years of development, eight rounds of prototypes, and one patent application later (and one very frustrated factory manager), the Kiboko camera backpack was launched.

Looks as if it arrived in good condition and I hope when My friend delivers it that is the case. Customer service is VERY slow to react to emails, something I find shocking in this day and age and especially from a US company. So until the package arrived at my friend, I had sent 3 mails with zero response. That really does not give a good impression, so I hope I have no issues with the quality of the bag, as it is so difficult to make contact and receive support. No phone number to call. From communication I would give 1 to 2 stars. That my friend received it we go up to 3 stars.

    Best backpack for my gear

The 2.0 16+ is great for my gear. On one side I have my D850 and Nikon 200-500mm. Lens attached. On the other side my Nikon 28-300 plus accessories. Sturdy, comfortable, and high quality value.
    Highly recommended.

    Fantastic Bag

Bought this bag for a trip up north, on a bush plane, hence the need for a small bag. Was able to pack a Canon R5 with 100-500 attached, R6 with a RF70-200 attached and a RF14-35, plus 4 batteries a charger, a 14 inch Macbook Pro, charger and cable. The butterfly is an excellent concept, can take lots of stuff. I also tried, and can put the RF800, the 100-500, and the 14-35, the two camera bodies in it. The cameras have to be detached and put in face to face. Have ordered its big brother 30L for when I am bigger planes.

    Great little bag.

The 16L is a great little bag. Perfect size for a smaller mirrorless system. I got mine because I was downsizing from a full on Nikon DSLR system to a more compact Sony system. The bag is incredibly weatherproof. I’ve shot with it in the rain, wind and heavy snow and not one drop of water got in the bag. It also feels good on my back when hiking. If I had to make one suggestion it would be to make the zipper loops different colors. All 4 are the same blue and I end up opening the wrong compartment sometimes. Maybe one color for the main compartments and another color for the smaller ones where the accessories go. Great bag and tough as nails.
